Guitar concert. Saint Andrew’s Recital Series March 7, 2018 Concert
The highlight of this concert will be the world premiere of a new arrangement of Shavano Suite, originally for guitar duo, by local composer, Jim Bosse. This suite presents four movements, each inspired by folklore and campfire tales from frontier era Colorado. The new version is scored for guitar and string orchestra with percussion. Joyce Hanagan will conduct this performance in chamber orchestra form with Jim on guitar; Colorado College music students Emily Vierling, Elana Martinev-Vivot, Garrett Figueroa, and Madeline Ng playing the string parts; David Dymek on bass; and Louis Keller on percussion.
The other half of this concert program will present more of Jim’s compositions. Six Easy Guitar Ensemble Pieces, for guitar quintet, will be performed by the Colorado College Guitar Ensemble under the direction of Dale Miller. Jim will join the ensemble with Dale and assistant director, Neil Hesse, and three CC students; Rishi Chi-Wan Ling, Irene Sixuan Chen and Gabriel McGill. Jim and the ensemble directors will also perform as a trio presenting two pieces that Jim composed for two of his granddaughters, Lullaby for Mary Jane and Morning Song for Rose Eleanor.
Tickets available at the door are $10.00 for adults.
Students are free.
